Tiernan Family Farm, makers of Glebe Brethan Cheese
The farm is situated in the historic and fertile plain between the rivers Boyne and the Dee, site of the famous battle of Ferdia and Cuchullain. Now in its fourth generation as a dairy, we began making cheese to add value to our milk. Our desire to maintain the traditional family farm and continue producing quality milk lead us develop our own hand made speciality cheese, Glebe Brethan.

Louth is known as the Land of Legends, the backdrop for the central epic of the Ulster Cycle, the Tain Bo Cuailgne or Cattle Raid of Cooley. Would Maeve have taken a shine to the Tiernans’ Montebliardes?

The cows graze the same fields farmed by David's father and grandfather before him. We combine dairying and tillage, which ensures total traceability as all our animals are fed with home grown grains. Since we farm on a small scale our cows are given great care and attention enjoying a natural environment and diet of grass and grain.
